California: Clinton’s Waterloo?

Delegates, shmelegates.  It’s a near certainty that whichever candidate wins the popular vote in California is most likely to become the nominee. For Obama, California could be Gettysburg. For Hillary, how about Waterloo? Read my post here.

Today I cast my vote for Barack Obama and I feel a part of something big. Something significant. I have closed my eyes and imagined how the world will respond when Obama gets off AF1 in Damascus or Calcutta or Beijing or Teheran. I think electing Obama will be our nation’s first step into the future. I felt like I was taking one baby-step that direction when I voted today.

  2. Michael Balter Says:

It is almost too much to hope that the putrid politics of Clintonism might be discredited once and for all tonight. But nevertheless I am hoping.

  3. Rob Grocholski Says:

Yeah, a piviotal contest today, indeed. I’m for Obama. But the pessimist in me is worried about all those early voters who might have gone for Edwards. Heck, I was planning to vote for John last week. (Of course, Clinton’s camp is probably in angst over those voters, too.) And, well, California Democrats’ rather shabby recent history of picking chief exectives doesn’t exactly inspire me. Remember Gray, Cruz, and Phil? I know, GC&P were ‘only’ governor grade material. Still.

Hopefully we’ll do better tonight with the National CEO spot.

  4. Sergio Says:

    I agree with Balter!

    Down with the Clintons!

Vive la France (I have to go teach French tonight)!

Nice to see that Michael Balter is back. We can have archaeological debates after everyone gives up on politics.

You guys are hoping against hope when you think that Obama will beat the future President Clinton. When you see the dirty campaign that she’ll run in the general election, you’ll wish that Nixon was back in office.

  6. Woody Says:

And, Nixon didn’t try to cry at every turn to get what he wanted.

“When Obama gets off Air Force One”

American Empire will sail more smoothly. Millions will still die, and America will more easily hornswoggle Thrid World bourgeoisies away from China and back into the American camp. An all around dream for America’s ruling class.

Not to say I don’t agree with Balter that Obama is the lesser of many evils, and McCain scares me. But lets be honest. No fundamental change- and perhaps you agree that American Empire should continue to be the dominant power. I’ll roll the dice with a multipolar world preference myself.

I’ve never been a Hillary Clinton fan – Reg even called me a “Clinton Hater” a year or two ago – but Mrs. Clinton is head and shoulders more classy than Richard Milhouse Nixon ever was. Nixon was far more pathetic in his pandering; teary speeches about the family dog that he got from a campaign contributer, speculating on the pink underwear of Democratic Congressional candidates…Nixon was a whack job who couldn’t hold a candlestick to Hillary Clinton in terms of self-dignity. You are dumb.

  9. Kyle Says:

Well, Hillary got California. And apparently she has Latinos to thank. McCain vs. Hillary for Prez 2008. What a fucking bummer.

Not much of a change at all from before, folks

I’d be nervous if I were the Shillary machine

Easy to see why. One of the things that has bothered me about Obama is his willingness to engage in anti-immigration rhetoric (He is in favor of building that wall along the border). With Hillary being much more reasonable than Obama on immigration (and, too, the Clintons general appeal in that state), it is easy to see why Clinton won California. I’m still pulling for Obama, but, you know…just saying.

“I’d be nervous if I were the Shillary machine”

Me too. It was Hillary’s big chance to put Obama away last night, and he beat her in states that he wasn’t expected to win in. Statistical draw last night, but with what is left, and with the kind of money that Obama can continue to expect raising, Hillary might be in some trouble. Or at least I can hope so.

No Marc it was neither Gettysburg nor Waterloo. Try the Somme. or worse, Verdun!

  13. Third Charmer Says:

Ah, so good to have the ever hapless Balter back, his yellow stained copy of “No One Left To Lie To” in hand;just as Hillary Clinton once again makes a big old lyin monkey out of Marc Cooper.

We must explore again, if a political journal knowingly hires an incompetent to cover a political campaign, feigning an objectivity that may well mislead casual readers, is it engaging in a fundementaly corrupt and dishonest act?
