Email authentication requires a poster to give out a real, valid email address which is used to activate an account. This alone will stop many would-be trolls in their tracks. It also makes repeated trolling more arduous for the offender because a proper banning requires the troll to get a new email address and activate a new account in addition to changing their IP address. Only the most dedicated of trolls will be willing to go through this trouble.
