Down With America!

flagburn

It all began woth GOP Party Leader Limbaugh wishing failure on the American presidency.  Yay!

Then increasingly fringe conservatives applauded when Obama’s plea for Chicago as home to the Olympics was rebuffed. Huzzah!

Now the Republican National Committee and its goofball leader calls the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to American President Obama “unfortunate. Booooo!

Here’s a few more things that could happen soon to lift the hearts of real patriots, true-red-white-and-bluers and obsessive teabaggers:

Health care fails leaving 50 million without coverage and average family policy rates topping $13,000.  Awesome!

The Dow plunges to 6,000 and unemployment hits 15%.  Fortunate!

Obama breaks a leg shooting hoops. Excellent!

The Taliban take over Afghanistan.  Fabulous!

Israel nukes Iran, starting World War III. Ecstay and Rapture (a twofer)!

Obama gets Swine Flu. Tough titties!

Nothing like a flag-lapel-wearing jingoist to best embody the worst in hypocrisy.

Why do the right wing extremists hate America?

Love it or leave it, losers!

For clarification: no irony intended. With behavior as Marc described, it’s obvious that right wing extremists hate our freedoms and all we stand for as a proud nation, and are fueled by an irrational and nihilistic desire to see us fail. This group fits right in with all the religious right nutcases who are excitedly counting down the days to the end of the world, cursing gays and praying for the destruction of humanity.

Fortunately for humanity, extremists (right and left) are by definition relegated to the sidelines. Let’s keep it that way.

  2. Anna Churchill Says:

    Yay, Marc is Up!

  5. jim hitchcock Says:

Reg, did your son ever join the sub service? If so, have him check out a book called `Blind Man’s Bluff’, by Sherry Sontag and Christopher Drew.

It’s about American submarine espionage from the start of the cold war on (think Glomar Explorer), and it is awesome.

  6. Howie Says:

Now this is just unfair. I’m sure there is plenty of good reasons for GOP & Friends to take these seemingly anti-American positions, and I’ll leave it to Woody to explain. Sure, during the entirety of the last eight years conservatives railed against liberals, exclaiming that there is never a justified reason to say anything that seems the least bit anti-American or anti-POTUS, but we’re talking about a party of patriots whose every word and every action is default-ly American.

  7. Woody Says:

Marc, I seem to remember the Left and the Democrats pulling against Bush for eight solid years, much more than conservatives do Obama, and I remember Obama pounding it in everyone’s head, with the help of left-wing media, that Bush had us in a recession before it was even true, which encouraged it.

But, to use a phrase from the left who said that they weren’t against our troops but were against our policies in Iraq, I’m not against America but I oppose Obama’s policies and actions which are making America weaker and will bankrupt our nation.

Why do liberals support China to overtake America?

  8. Woody Says:

Howie, I saw your comment after I made mine. I hope I didn’t disappoint you.

  9. Howie Says:

Thanks, Woody. I just wish conservatives would lead by example, instead of proving two wrongs make a right. If you’re going to claim that any and all protest against the current president or his policies is anti-American, then you can’t turn around and do exactly that — especially when what you called anti-American were protests of a war we were lied into, torture, warrantless spying, etc. and when what you’re protesting is the Nobel Prize and 2016 Olympics. It just seems beneath such esteemed patriots to attack every little thing Obama does or is done on his behalf instead of getting to the real meat of the issue — you know all those things Obama is doing or has done that is destroying or has destroyed the country that none of you seem keen on actually specifically mentioning.

  10. Howie Says:

    Oh, and

Why do liberals support China to overtake America?

    Because we all love strawmen?

  11. jim hitchcock Says:

Funny. Anna, I just talked to a business pal in L.A. who went to the Petersen Automotive Museum (corner of Fairfax & Wilshire) last night.

  12. Kyle Says:

Well, whaddya know, right wing extremists in Georgia:

    “Obama’s plan for health-care: N*&%*r rig it.

And yes, once again, the fact that even a right-of-center blogger is decrying this trash is evidence of how loony these extremists are. Republicans, heal thyselves and stop hating America, or get used to the bench. You’ll be planted there awhile.

  13. Woody Says:

Howie, I’m not against the Peace Prize, and I believe that Barack Obama is in good company to receive the same prize awarded to Yasser Arafat. I guess the awarding of the prize to Obama “as a call to action” is like the call to action for Arafat’s Palestinian terrorist bombings. The Nobel Committee sure loves to rub the noses of proud Americans into their choices.

I wanted the U.S. to get the Olympics, and I didn’t care that Obama put that task ahead of meeting with General McChrystal. What was funny is that he went to the Olympic Committee and talked about ” I this” and “I that,” and got the response that he, not America, deserved.

Frankly, I said it before the election and it continues to be true…Obama is in over his head on this job. He voted “present” more often than not when he was a Senator, and he continues to vote “present” as the President with his indecisiveness and lack of leadership on matters of importance.

What I can’t understand is why you guys rank his celebrity status over his accomplishments.

  14. Woody Says:

Kyle, don’t forget that one of Obama’s own appointees accused Bush of the 9-11 attack.

  15. reg Says:

Jim – he couldn’t get sub duty because of a very minor health issue. He served 4 years on a destroyer based in Japan and just came home in September. He’s back in school and will probably stay in the reserves. I will recommend that book because he’s interested in that stuff.

  16. jim hitchcock Says:

    Good for him, Reg.

  17. reg Says:

    “Class”:

I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision of the Nobel Committee.

Let me be clear, I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize, men and women who’ve inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women and all Americans want to build, a world that gives life to the promise of our founding documents.

And I know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it’s also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

And that is why I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century.

  18. Bob Williams Says:

“Convicted of a crime I didn’t even commit. Hah! Attempted murder? Now honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel prize for attempted chemistry?”

Troglodyte un-American Right Wingers Scoff At Our President’s Peace Prize!

“I like Barack Obama as much as the next liberal, but this is a farce.” – Perter Beinart

“This is ridiculous — embarrassing, even.” – Ruth Marcus

“Nonetheless, the president seemed humbled by the news and the Norwegian committee packed for its trip to the United States, where it will appear on Dancing with the Stars.” – Richard Cohen

“It is undeserved. It is a bit ridiculous.” – Ezra Klein

“When I saw this morning’s top New York Times headline — “Barack Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize” — I had the same immediate reaction which I’m certain many others had: this was some kind of bizarre Onion gag that got accidentally transposed onto the wrong website, that it was just some sort of strange joke someone was playing.” – Glen Greenwald

  20. Sergio Says:

Mr. Obama does not deserve the prize.

I generally agree with this analysis.

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/10/09/miller.obama.prize.doubts/index.html

  21. Howie Says:

That’s a commendable position, Woody, but I often have a hard time keeping track of whether Obama lacks leadership and votes present on important issues, or if he’s in fact an iron-fisted fascist dictator that strongarms anti-liberty measures onto an unsuspecting nation. My brain tells me he can’t be both, but I don’t know if I can trust it, so I’m going to consult my gut.

  22. Dan O Says:

    Woody

Pulling against Bush is correct, but not hoping that he would fail. big difference. See we disagreed with his policies. some of us thought he was stupid. Some thought he was a crook surrounded by venal cronies. But I don’t know anyone who cheered for him to fail.

We didn’t sit around and (despite your caterwauling on this) wish for him to fail in Iraq. We didn’t wish for more tropps to die. some of us thought this was a mistake and we should get out, but we didn’t cheer for death so he would get egg on his face.

We didn’t hope that his tax policies would make the economy go into the shitter, to win a point.

We didn’t hope that the levee would break so that he would be handed a PR set back.

See we can oppose policy, and hell, oppose the man every step of the way, without needing other people to suffer to feed our victory and glee. You guys (at least a vocal portion of you) don’t see the distinction, which is precisely the point. We don’t need or want to win at any price. You do.

  23. Dan O Says:

Kyle, don’t forget that one of Obama’s own appointees accused Bush of the 9-11 attack.

Let’s play the game the way Woody does.

Your president was a simpering idiot who didn’t believe in evolution. I think it’s far worse for the president to be a total moron than it is for one of his appointees to be so.

Btw, understranding evolution is one of those litmus tests that separate the adults from the children. Want a lollipop?

  24. Dan O Says:

On a side note–I’m not exactly sure Obama deserved the Nobel. His response was measured and classy as always, but the Swedes seem to have gotten a little bit ahead of themselves.

  25. Hester Says:

I was hoping the President would graciously decline and say that at this time he does not deserve the award. He would truly be a great man if he had the gumption to do such a thing. How any rational person can think he deserves the award at this time is beyond comprehension. I voted for him so spare me the name calling about right wingers and conservatives.

  26. Kyle Says:

Nice comments, Dan O. And, for the record, I also think selecting Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize was rather dumb. I’m a liberal. Isn’t that amazing how that’s possible? You know, the ol’ holding two thoughts in your head at the same time, without waiting for partisan points or Rush Limbaugh to tell you what to believe?

  27. GM Hoakster Says:

I remember back in the midst of the Iraq debacle watching a debate on the message boards of this very blog that reminds me of all of this. A few wingnuts were celebrating the rise of the Iraq “resistance” and were hoping that US Imperialism would be defeated by these seemingly noble forces. But they were a couple of wingnuts who did not represent anything other than the most marginal voices on the Left. Yes lefties wanted the US out of Iraq but they did not view this as a “defeat of Bush,” rather they wanted a change in policy.

Yes some compared Bush to Hitler, crowed about fascism, etc… but again, they were marginal. The Left may have strong disliked Bush but it was based upon 8 years of failure and again, they argued for different policies.

What we are seeing now is an inversion of that. All the right wingers who whined about hating America were clearly projecting. They are the self-loathing gang of unthinking android, cheerleader squad who cannot see beyond their own ideological loyalties. For the likes of a guy like Woody, he does not love America, he loves authority figures, the authoritarian personality and that is why he was a Bushie.

So it is senseless to argue about anything with these folks. They are zombies. They follow. They crave servitude. The absurdity of cheering the loss of the Olympics or decrying the Nobel Prize reflect that these folks are members of a team, crave a position in a hierarchy, and find meaning in life by supporting the wealthy and powerful. It really is a waste to argue with true believers.

  28. GM Hoakster Says:

“What we are seeing now is an inversion of that. All the right wingers who whined about hating America were clearly projecting.”

    meant to say:

“What we are seeing now is an inversion of that. All the right wingers who whined about the “left” hating America were clearly projecting.”

I would add to this that the Right are a bunch of cry babies and spoiled winners. They had the country for 8 years and fucked pretty much everything up. And if they cannot have their way, their guy, they will slander, tattle, cry, whine, bitch, moan, etc… They are toadies and nothing else.

  29. reg Says:

    amen

  30. reg Says:

Hey Bob – never in my life have I given a shit what Peter Beinart, Richard Cohen or Ruth Marcus say. They are almost always wrong and have a history of sucking up to the right-wing for whatever reasons. In fact, they’re all a bit of a joke among liberals. Glenn Greenwald is another story, but he’s the crankiest man on the planet and doesn’t much like Obama. That said, read Ezra Klein’s entire piece that you snipped from. The joke’s on you.

  31. Marc Cooper Says:

Here’s why Obama won. Bush’s average pop rating in Europe was 11%. Obama’s is 88% as of today.

Turning America into a country to be respected instead of feared and scorned is a catalyst toward peace. Is any of this Obama’s doing? Somewhat. But the Peace Prize has always been detached from reality. Note Kissinger, plese.

The point isnt how rational the selection process is. It isnt. The point is that it is nevertheless a mark of national pride that the GOP stupidly stupidly stupidly scoffs at. But no one ecer said Republicans were particularly smart.

  32. Bob Williams Says:

    The Norwegian Consensus:

“Utrolig snål tildeling. Nesten så jeg mistenker dem for å gi ham prisen bare for å få en sittende amerikansk president til Oslo igjen …”

“Unbelievably clever choice. Makes me almost think they gave him the prize to get a sitting American president to Oslo again….

  35. Marc Cooper Says:

    Woody…

I am curious. Are you of African, Asian or of European descent? You have a real hang up with the latter so can’t quite figure it out.

That Obama is SO popular all over the world is good for America. Doesnt mean anything else, pal. If you’d prefer your European ancestors hate America, well, that would be sort of baffling.

Of course, let’s give credit where credit is due. Obama is so popular because Bush was so hated. What’s the conclusion there? That the entire world is wrong and we are right? or at least the 32% who supported Bush were right?

    Don’t answer.

  36. Woody Says:

Marc, my ancestors left Europe because they had had enough of it. I see why.

No, Obama’s popularity throughout the world is more of a joke than a compliment. Other nations are seeing that Obama is weak, and their envy of our country makes that good news for them. So, consider their motives rather than the polls.

When some lefty in our country worries about whether Europeans approve or disapprove of some action by our country, I say, “Who cares what they think? We do what is best for us — not them.”

  38. Woody Says:

Obama wants a big tax on Cokes, and The Coca-Cola Company was the one that actually had a legitimate claim to the Noble Peace Prize. VIDEO

  39. reg Says:

Here’s something I absolutely don’t get about the rightwing reaction to the Nobel Prize deal. Limbaugh says that our enemies are celebrating this award because it means that America is now officially weak – or some such nonsense – and then he declares that he agrees with the Taliban and Iran that Obama didn’t deserve the award. If the award is a signal of all the horseshit that idiots like Woody have convinced themselves to believe, why aren’t the Iranians and the Taliban celebrating instead of lining up with Rush Limbaugh. Is the award undeserved because Obama is a warmonger or deserved because he’s a big wimp. Or are the Europeans – who identify with this award more than most – the “enemies” the right is talking about ? If that’s what the rightwing believes – that the countries enemies reside mostly in Europe, while the Taliban and Iran are angry about the Nobel committee signaling the weakening of Great Satan – my assumption is that the reason Obama has started bombing the moon is to inflict casualties among the FOX News audience base. The incoherence is deafening.

  40. reg Says:

    “country’s”

  41. Woody Says:

Obama couldn’t even bomb the moon correctly. It was somewhat of a fizzle.

reg, it’s rare that the Noble Committee doesn’t use the award as an attack against America – specifically, conservative America.

You and the world know that Obama has done nothing to deserve the Peace Prize except to capture the White House and block conservative influence in Washington, after he fooled American voters about his radical connections and fascist agenda. That’s what the prize awards.

Liberals hijacked the Nobel Prize Committee decades ago and use it as a political weapon against conservatives and capitalism. How else could Al Gore have gotten a political prize for an alleged work of science?

To the left, victory over the U.S. is achieved when we are can no longer deal from a position of strength. That’s critical to the leftist agenda.

If you are celebrating the award to Obama, you’re in like company:

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the Nobel Prize Committee’s decision was “evidence of a realistic vision of the dynamics of world development.”

Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro called Obama’s Nobel Prize a “positive measure.”

In an article, Castro said the Nobel committee decision was designed to criticize “the politics of genocide” pursued by Obama’s predecessors.

Like I said, Obama is gaining favor internationally, especially with our enemies, with each step of bringing down our country. Naturally, you like that.

  42. Anna Churchill Says:

Yes, thats right, Woody. Obama is God and while doing all the other things you accuse him of doing or not doing he also runs the space missions, makes the calculations and pushes the buttons.

    What are you…six?

You think that mission ONLY materialized after Obama was elected?

    Nothing embarrasses you does it?

  43. reg Says:

Rave on, Woodman !!! I like your longer comments because it’s easier to make the decision immediately not to bother reading them.

  44. Woody Says:

And, Anna, do you agree with reg that the purpose of the moon mission was to bombard conservatives?

Of course, reg, I know that you read my comment. You can’t help it.

  45. Randy Paul Says:

Of course, reg, I know that you read my comment. You can’t help it.

Think of it as being roughly similar to rubbernecking at car accidents.

  46. reg Says:

“Of course, reg, I know that you read my comment. You can’t help it.”

Not that long-ass one…keep ‘em coming, waving your hands wildly to get attention ! You sound pretty desperate. Family sick of your horseshit ?

  47. someone just lurking ... Says:

it seems, though i may be wrong, that the left’s response to the right vis-a-vis whether obama deserved or earned the npp is almost an exact copy of the right’s response to the left vis-a-vis leftish comments regarding bush’s conduct of the war. and this, of course, shows how truly sick this left/right divide is.

pot, meet kettle; kettle, meet pot

  48. Kyle Says:

    though i may be wrong

    ^
    This.

It would help to read through the comments before you make useless generalizations about The Left.

  49. reg Says:

What I think is hilarious about that comment is that it equates criticism of the rationale and/or conduct of a war – particularly in the case of Iraq – with nattering over a prize with virtually no consequences other than perception. And frankly, the perception that this prize is some sort of problem for Obama, a slap at the United States, that Obama’s turn-around on numerous rogue policies of the Bush years is inconsequential and should go unnoticed or unrewarded on the world stage or that Obama’s dignified, low-key acceptance was other than pitch-perfect, is absurd.

The discourse on these issues is no more “pot-kettle,” than the Montgomery bus boycott has an analog in Rush Limbaugh’s “concerns” that black quarterbacks are being promoted in a racist affront to white men.

  50. Woody Says:

reg, if you don’t follow my remarks, then you aren’t qualified to make judgments on them, not that you ever were. But, wait. You didn’t even read this one. So, I guess that I can call you a fag and you won’t even know it.

  56. Randy Paul Says:

I’m going to go out on a limb here, not having read Woody’s latest longish remarks, and make a bet that they are the same stupid shit as usual.

    This may be the stupidest:

The U.S. soccer team beat the Honduras team to advance to the World Cup. How could Obama allow that?

Doesn’t anyone have something to say about the Dodgers sweeping the Cardinals to win the Division Series, or is destroying our nation from within more important?

Don’t you have anything to say about the Braves not making it to the postseason or would you prefer to continue to having sex with sheep?

However, the Democrats do have the gall to attach “hate crimes legislation” for queers to a major defense bill. (I had to use that word before my freedom of speech is taken away and called a hate crime.)

When I was going to San Francisco State, Christopher Isherwood came to speak. He used the word queers, too as he explained it co-opted the word from those who hated gays.

  63. Woody Says:

Actually, Randy, the problem is on your side. You guys can’t discuss something without focusing on me and trying to attack me.

    - – -

reg, how is a political race different from dog fighting? You don’t think that there is a form of trauma from those constant attacks? I remember Al Gore going nuts after he lost to Bush. He never has gotten his head back on straight.

  64. Woody Says:

Here’s the moonbats that Obama missed.

…criticizing Barack Obama for winning the Nobel Peace prize makes you a terrorist.

…That comes from the DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse. He said, “The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize….

  65. Randy Paul Says:

Actually, Randy, the problem is on your side. You guys can’t discuss something without focusing on me and trying to attack me.

    More projection.

  66. Randy Paul Says:

Woody, you don’t argue on substance. Witness the Heisman Trophy nonsense.

You frequently link to opinion pieces that merely echo your opinions. Then, far too often when one of us comes up with something substantive to counter your claims, your response, more often than not is something along the lines of “I don’t have time to verify your claims” or “That’s so pathetic” or you call one of us stupid.

If you have the time to link to these opinion pieces, then you should have the time to check the veracity of those who offer counter arguments. Your counterarguments are usually mere contradiction and not substantive.

  67. Woody Says:

Randy, I can’t win with you.

When I express my views alone, you demand links and support. But, when I do provide support, you say that I’m merely linking to articles with similar views.

If I offer a link to FOX or any source which leads to a conservative view, you reject that as nonauthoritative. But, when you link to a left-wing site, then I’m supposed to accept it’s conclusions, despite very obvious failings common to the left.

It’s usually not the “facts” that are a problem with you, although sometimes they are typically incomplete. More often, it’s your interpretation of them, and that’s where I show you up and, by implication, say that you are stupid, which is something of a compliment because the other position would be to say that you are dishonest.

It’s too bad that you couldn’t see the humor in “Obama for the Heisman.” Typical of liberals.

  68. Randy Paul Says:

If I offer a link to FOX or any source which leads to a conservative view, you reject that as nonauthoritative

Poppycock. You link to opinion pieces by right wingers (i.e. Neal Boortz). I link to factual sources.

by implication, say that you are stupid

Now you’re just lying. You come right out and call me stupid. Man up. At least you should have the courage of your debased convictions.

It’s usually not the “facts” that are a problem with you, although sometimes they are typically incomplete

That’s a cowpie if I ever saw one. These are the same complaints so many of us make about your piss-poor argumentation skills (an I believe I’m being charitable here). To actually “show [me] up”you would have to argue from an intellectually honest position and a statement like this:

despite very obvious failings common to the left.

Let me dumb this down for you, Roscoe: you haven’t proven that there are “very obvious failings common to the left.” That’s a presumption and a perception on your part. It is most assuredly not a fact.

As for the “Obama for the Heisiman” link, I didn;t find it funny; it was just puerile and frankly, dumb.

I suppose that is the best that I can expect from you.

  69. Woody Says:

Okay, so you’re both stupid and have no sense of humor.

  70. Samuel Says:

    so you’re both stupid

Why do right-wing extremists always resort to personal attacks?

  71. Randy Paul Says:

Okay, so you’re both stupid and have no sense of humor.

Bear the above in mind the next time you accuse someone else of attacking you.

You got nothing – as usual.

  72. Woody Says:

See, Randy. I can’t win. You either want me to be honest or to say nothing.

  73. Randy Paul Says:

I would prefer if you could try being civil and truthful and avoid gross generalizations, but I don’t have much faith in you to accomplish something as simple as that.

  74. Woody Says:

So, you think that everything from FOX is not worth watching? VIDEO

  75. Randy Paul Says:

Inside Edition is not owned by Fox.
