Edwards Winning?

I don't know. I do know that Obama is now spending a lot of time trying to knock him down.  Here's my latest report from Iowa.

The web can be so inadvertently ironic at times — the banner ad I keep getting when I look at your Huffpost story on Edwards is one for IAmLawsuitAbuse.org.

A campaign like the one Fred Harris ran? Interesting comparison. Fred never had a chance, though — he was seen as, at best, a McGovern re-run, and democrats didn’t want to take chances that year. (Not that Ford’s chances were all that great anyway.)

Edward’s is probably right to bang the war drums about corporate influence. Asked who has too much clout in Washington, a large majority of Americans answers: “Big Corporations.” So he’s got a winning stance, anyway. Sounds like he’s tactically very focused, too.

I’ve been trying to log in to The Huffington Post, but it has the most screwed up system I’ve ever seen on what’s supposed to be a major website, so I’ll hang out here with Marc!

What has kind of troubled me about Obama’s campaign is that he started out portraying himself as a kind of knight in shining armor who was above the vicissitudes of today’s horribly partisan politics, which is fine. Unfortunately, he has displayed a tendency to engage in those politics in this campaign.

Now, I am the last person to say negative campaigning should be ignored–for exhibit A, see John Kerry’s stupidity in responding to the lying Swift Boat Veterans. But Kerry didn’t claim that he wouldn’t be negative, either, as I recall. If Obama wants to convince me that he is what he says he is, he needs to BE what he says he is, and that is more intelligent and aboveboard than he is appearing to be. Set aside that Paul Krugman has convinced me that Obama’s health care program leaves a lot to be desired, and that Obama himself has been unfairly attacked. If you are better than that, as he claims to be, he needs to dismiss those attacks and not join in them.

What Obama has done is fall for the claptrap that his media advisors like Axelrod are feeding him. Of the candidates only Barack is spending his money by giving those guys commissions. Its a greatpayday for them and a waste of money for Obama.
