Election 06: #6. J.D. Gets K.O.ed

Among the grittiest litter getting swept out of congress tonight is one of the true, great blowhards of the House, six-term Arizona Republican Congressman J.D. Hayworth.

Former Mayor of Mesa, Harry Mitchell has cleaned J.D’s clock and we can all say good riddance. Hayworth assumed an aggressively nativist, anti-immigrant advocate, penning a quickie close-the-border book titled “Whatever It Takes.” Among his proposals: a temporary moratorium on legal Mexican immigration.

Looks like it’s J.D. who is going on hiatus — a permanent one.

    First, let’s turn to Hayworth’s comments (tinyurl.com/vw8qf):

“…In Washington, the Democrats made it clear I was one of two incumbents they most wanted to defeat. A lot of outside money is coming here: DCCC, NEA, MoveOn.org. My opponent is in the Top 10 list of MoveOn’s targets, in terms of help… despite my opponent putting me in the crosshairs of a sniper scope on a television ad, the newspapers here have been, to put it diplomatically, indulgent of his position. To put it realistically, they’re biased, hopelessly, in his favor… What my opponent did was morph into my positions [on illegal immigration]… On his ad about immigration, he says, we have to control the border, even though, in the state Senate, he voted against funding for the National Guard. He says we need improved technology on the border, even though, in the state Senate, he voted against radar. Heck, he’s even saying now he would like to see English as the official language, even though he voted against such a measure in the state Senate.

Then, let’s consider that Hayworth was considered a bit of a “rubber stamp” for Bush policies (except on illegal immigration).

Then, let’s take a look at all four illegal immigration-related propositions that passed by wide margins in AZ (tinyurl.com/y8uh6z).

So, you add all those together and only the worst hack would then assume that the voters want “reform”.

Oy, Webb 1,143,756 votes, or 49.51 percent, to Allen’s 1,141,030, or 49.39 percent.

I volunteered today at my poll and what struck me was how many young (my people) were out in force to vote. I would love to get find out the national percentages

  4. RcerX Says:

It’s early, but Webb is declaring victory with %99 of precincts in. And yes I’m a bit hyper.

VA Webb 1,167,95 – 49.7 Allen 1,156,431 - 49.2 with 130,000 absentee ballots to count – too close yes, so I am finally going to bed.

Hayworth can get a job at one of the failing farms in my area. It seems there was a 30% reduction in available labor this year and a large number of family farms are projected to fail in the next two years.

  7. ImmigrationMarchOrganizersHaveForeignLinks Says:

lurker: If growers can’t make it here with our labor laws (most of which were passed by “liberals” who are now pimping for those laws to be ignored), then they can go out of business and we can import strawberries from offshore, or they can go offshore, or they can automate.

If this were several decades ago the same people would be buggy whip manufacturers pining for child labor.

It’s interesting to note that papers like the LAT have published various pro-grower articles but haven’t looked into the links between those named growers and various government officials. Anyone know anyone who wants to do some real journalism instead of just writing advocacy pieces?

Mickey Kaus quotes an emailer who says:

“What’s REALLY important is that of the 27 or 28 seats where a Democrat replaced a Republican, in at least 20, the Democrat ran to the immigration enforcement side of the Republican: don’t let Hayworth and Graf** fool you, cuz those two examples ain’t fooling Rahm.”

It;s interesting that left multi-culti and corporate center-right boardroom types don’t want to restrict even illegal immigration. Let’s see–Teddy & McCain vs. Buchanan & Nader. Could happen, if we had a parliamentary system.
