Wouldn’t it at least have been incumbent upon any man aspiring to the highest office of our land to affirm – even as he notes that Obama is a political opponent, not an enemy of America , and that he doesn’t happen to be an Arab – that “Arab” isn’t, among decent people, a category that implies someone can’t also be a “mainstream” American.

Anna, I must admit that I have said things that were dumb that I regretted later, and I am glad that I was corrected on them, so keep that in mind – and don’t be offended – when I say: using the term “white trash” is tacky.

The poignant counterpart to the mob of cretins Palin attracts was a CNN spot in a dying Ohio town.

Employees of Archway cookies who had worked for the company for years were just laid off. These were people who used to be Republicans until now. What was astonishing was how ill and ravaged everyone looked.

Rent Michael Moore’s Roger and Me and note the same squashed ability to use language as in the Palin mob videos.

This is the America that no one pays attention to.

Marc – what a rather brillant montage you posted of the true current scenario – bravo!

I must admit that I am a gambler and did invest in Intrade this time around, and welcome the new numbers though I will not win much, but am also invested in the my local sports book as well living in Nevada.

So my favorite treat for today is Palin now talking about Abortion.– this campaign is so totally de-railed that calling it by any name other than LOST is even stunning me, if not totally amusing in some demented part of my brain.

Lastly sharing my latest bet – I believe come Monday the Dow Industrials will collapse even further – thank my stars I am no longer in the market, per se…….

What’s really sad and, I guess, ironic about that McCain moment where he took issue with his supporter who was afraid of Obama is that the woman, while obviously expressing the paranoia being fueled by the right and by McPalin themselves, basically just said that she was afraid because he was an “Arab.” (It was reported in some accounts that she said “Arab terrorist”, but it’s clear from the video that all she was accusing him of being was “Arab.”) Wouldn’t it at least have been incumbent upon any man aspiring to the highest office of our land to affirm – even as he notes that Obama is a political opponent, not an enemy of America , and that he doesn’t happen to be an Arab – that “Arab” isn’t, among decent people, a category that implies someone can’t also be a “mainstream” American. We’ve had an “Arab” general in leadership in Iraq, we’ve had numerous “Arab” politicians serve honorably in both parties – including at least one Senator. While I guess it was reassuring that McCain “walked back” the attacks on Obama a bit, to hear “No, he’s a decent family man” in response to “Obama’s an Arab” is pretty sickening.
