Happy New Year from Des Moines
Happy New Year from Des Moines. Or better said, from the center of the world. Or so it
seems. How can you have so much fun and keep your clothes on? Not to mention your overcoat, gloves, muffler and thermal undies.
I've been coming to these caucuses for some time now, but they've never been so interesting as this. The Republicans pulverizing themselves before our very eyes. And the Democrats actually conducting something that almost looks like a real campaign.
I miss my family but I'm too distracted to feel much sadness. I'll see them soon enough (this coming weekend).
In the meantime, I will be out in the sub-freezing downtown streets tonight to watch Bill and Hillary promise us all a New Dawn. Don't think I will exactly be buying into that narrative. But I'm more than happy to see this year quietly go.
It was a rough one for me with several months eaten up by illness which, I am delighted to note, has passed and inspired me scared me into living straight.
So I can honestly say that every day is a great day and every tomorrow is bright. I hope the same for you and yours.
Happy New Year from Locust Street.

Not a day goes by when I don’t drop in to see what is up with you and all the usual cast of characters. All the best to one and all for 2008.

Happy NY. Glad to hear your brush with the medical world taught you something. I’ve known enough people who tragically chose not to learn a lesson. We, and especially your family, are glad you’re making those necessary changes.
We’re all enjoying the Huff Post dispatches. Keep ‘em coming. Cheers.

Best wishes for a happy and HEALTHY ’08, Marc. We’ve another (wild ride?) year to go before Bush exits stage left. Counting on you to see us through it. Be well, dammit! Happy New Year everyone!

Marc, happy new year to you and your also-blog-talented daughter at VQI. I’m still looking forward to getting to meet you at the Normandie one of these days, but by all means get better healthwise first.

I spent much of this weekend tuning into CSpan to follow the Iowa campaign. I am impressed by the Democratic candidates. It reminded me how well Hillary comes across in small groups. I note one difference between the parties, at least the past few days.
All of the Republican events were in people’s homes. All of the Democratic events were in public places. I would almost say that the Republicans were all fear-based appeals, and that Dems’ were based on hope for the future. But, on reflection, some of the Dem arguments were fear-based as well, but more on the fear of global climate change that the ravages of disease-ridden immigrants.
