The episode “University,” where the stripper gets brutalized to death by Ralph, was also painful. Nevertheless, Joe Pantolone (sp.?) played the part of a psychopath with chilling accuracy. I was not unhappy to see Tony off him a year later, but Ralph’s character was fascinating. He definitely deserved his Emmy for that portrayal.

I’m not sure if “enjoying the violence” is that big an issue with the Sopranos. Occasionaly we’d get the satisfaction of a more horrible than average charactor would get his due; but certainly Adriana’s murder is one of the more painful things to watch I’ve ever seen on T.V.
Then their was the undeniably comic hit by Bobbie’s Dad.

Mostly, though, it’s all pretty terrible, and we are reminded of the price tag that goes with these killer’s advantage over the rest of us. While I’m yaking, I heard another puff piece (David Edleson) praising the show’s “Moral ambiguity”, which is about as meaningful as a conservative’s route denucation of “moral relativism.” I think Chase ment to portray a comic hell, where our weapons of defence (psychiatry, the family) can only do so much.

That is a whole nother kettle of fish.

It’s a darn good thing that we the viewers were spared the sight of Ade’s dead body….Drea De Matteo is a babe. I hated Sil with a passion after that drive out to the woods (in fact, for me, her and the late Ralphie were the most entertaining people on that show after Gandolfini).

That’s an interesting theory; about Agent Harris really still being on the organized crime task force, and playing Tony.

Personally, I think if the writers were going for realism, they would have the other four families intervene at this point and take out both Phil and Tony. All five families today would do everything they could to avoid the kind of bloodshed we’ve seen on this show, including keeping the other families in line.
