You’re right, Grumpy–the “Wazzzzuuuuuup!” Budweiser guys should have recited a 30-minute-long manifesto listing each specific policy change they support, along with references and citations, followed by a 10-minute Q&A with a panel of moderators representing various industries and political organizations.
I love your comments, but I think you’re kinda over-thinking this one.
Grumpy:
Suppose you are correct, and the Democrats don’t have the right answers.
You’ve conceded the need for change, so it’s very hard to see how you could rationalize voting for the Republicans.
Democracy isn’t designed to bring the best, most qualified leaders to the fore, nor to ensure they stay in power. And history shows beyond a doubt that it has only rarely achieved that — more by chance than by design.
Democracy is still the best system because it does ensure that we have a chance to change leaders if we decide they have failed. As a system, democracy functions far more as antidote and prophylactic than as a health tonic.
If we do not dispose of the Republicans, who will accept responsibility for their failure. Is it sane and/or rational even to believe that a president nominated by the power structure of a party that has failed can, simply by declaring himself an opponent of the party, absolve that party of responsiblity for its failures?
When a company goes bankrupt, receivers are appointed to disburse the assets and, depending on the circumstances, rehabilitate the company. It may well be that the receivers aren’t much better businessmen than the managers of the bankrupt company. But no one would challenge the importance of separating the bankrupted managers from the remaining assets of their company.
The U.S. is in a kind of bankruptcy now. We are far from fiscally bankrupt, but that is only because we have about a century of perfect credit history behind us and can print as much fiat currency as we desire.
We are, however, politically bankrupt as the White House has again and again shown itself powerless to reverse the failures it has brought.
That seems reason enough to vote against the Republicans, whether or not you like the Democrats.

Well said. Unfortunately, the woodies of the world think a prophylactic is something you wear on your head to protect themselves when they put their heads up their asses.

The video’s well done, but all “change” seems to mean is “Throw the rascals out. Elect new rascals.”
If Obama has answers any more plausible than the other lot, they’ve escaped me.

Indeed they have, and that’s your fault, not his.

This topic is quite trendy in the net right now. What do you pay attention to while choosing what to write about?
